Plugged in and not charging

Power icon says plugged in and not charging.

Just noticed this, don't know how long it's been this way.

I unplugged the AC and the computer went black, so apparently I have no battery power.

How do I fix this?

Re: Plugged in and not charging

You can try to load the BIOS defaults. Tap F2 when you turn the computer on and when you are on the system setup screen press F9 to load the BIOS defaults. Press F10 to save and exit. If that does not work download the BIOS update for your computer. If nothing works there might be something wrong with your battery or the motherboard.

Re: Plugged in and not charging

Contact Toshiba and demand a replacement.  I have replaced my motherboard twice and still have this problem.

It is a defect.   Toshiba needs to be accountable for this.

Good luck.  I am still working on this.   My computer is less than 3 years old and this happened to me in the first year under warranty

and then again just 60 days after replacing motherboard.  I was told by the tech that it definetly is a defect.

Re: Plugged in and not charging

Ouch.

That's what I was afraid of.....this is an A205-S4577 Satellite.

Is yours the same?

I think mine is still under warranty.

So do I go through a huge hassle now?  Or will they just replace it with a new laptop?

Re: Plugged in and not charging

Before confronting Toshiba with a problem you may not fully understand, I'd recommend getting it checked out under your existing Warranty.  Sometimes (with the issue listed) it may be something as simple as a Battery replacement, which carry a 1 year warranty from the time you purchased your system.

Re: Plugged in and not charging

Drat!  After reviewing my papers, I find my warranty expired two months ago.

I do have a service contract and they advised me to buy a new battery and see if that works......if it does, they're off the hook because the battery isn't covered in the contract.

If the new battery doesn't solve the problem, I'm to return it and send the laptop to them.

So, we'll see.......I'm reluctant to send the laptop away.   I have only used it on battery power a couple of times.  It's more of a portable (AC to AC) than a battery portable anyway.

It works great except for the battery.......if I send it in, who knows what damage they might do?

Re: Plugged in and not charging

any resolution to this?  i also have a A205-S4577, and i've now had it for about 1.5 years, so the warranty is up.  I tried installing the new bios from the toshiba site, and that didnt fix it.  the computer shows that it's plugged in and "charging" but it isnt, and is actually slowly draining.  anyone have any ideas?

Re: Plugged in and not charging

I have a A135-S4527 and experience the same problem : Laptop will run without the battery installed  and will charge the battery when the machine is off. It will however run down the battery even if plugged in and then shut down. The icon will display pluggen in -not charging until it runs out of poer. I have read about this issue in many forums and it seems that it may be Vista Related as the problem shows up in many different machines including HP and Dell, the OS being the only commonality . Everyone having this issue should definately contact both their manufacturer and Microsoft.
