My 1 year old Satellite stops responding when AC power is given to it from battery mode. When connected the laptop does not start at all...freezes after the boot screen. The PC runs perfectly well on battery only and my battery cannot hold a full charge and needs to be replaced.Any other AC connected still freezes the machine.I have formatted my harddisk, upgraded my BIOS and OS from Vista to Window 7 but still the problem persists.
If you have some suggestions please lemme have them..

I have a Satellite A205-S4777 running Windows Vista that does the same thing. I can charge the battery up using the OEM charger that came with the laptop. However, the computer will not operate if the charger is plugged in. I can do everything I want within the time restrictions of the battery (1.5 to 2 hours). But the moment the charger is plugged in, everything freezes, or the computer shuts down.
I have not tried a different charger, but I have read on other sites, that some people have tried this, and still had the freezing or shutting down when the charger is connected.
If there is a quick and easy fix for this problem, please post it here as soon as possible. I need this fixed!
Thank you!

I have a Satellite M200, Vista Home Basic, CPU/Ram: 1.729 GHz / 2037 MB, about 3 yrs old.
When my laptop is running on battery, everything seems ok. When I connect the AC supply, the screen gets garbled and freezes. But if I am in safe mode, this never happens.
I have tried restore points, updating Vista, running various diagnostics, and everything indicates system ok.
I opened up the laptop completely, cleaned all the boards, fan etc, still no love.
Voltage on power supply is 19.3 or so (spec is 19v), so I think no problem there. I am not sure if there are spikes in the power supply unit or if there is ripple voltage. Besides, isn't it supposed to be a switching mode PSU...
This has been a progressive failure. Initially (several months back), the laptop screen would get garbled (and system freeze) after about an average of 45 minutes of operation in normal mode (not safe mode). Then this time reduced gradually over 2 months to almost instantaneous freezing when main supply is connected. Have tried using external monitor, still the same issue.
The only way I can now use the external power supply is when running in safe mode.
Tried various combination...with battery, without battery, only battery, only AC, external monitor with just battery, external monitor with just AC, external monitor with both, unplugging AC and battery in various combination.

Hi,
I have the same problem with my Toshiba A205-S7464. Anyone who knows how to fix this problem? I hope it's a simple one.
