Satellite u305 battery charging problem

Hello,
I recently traveled with my U305-s5107 notebook, and for the past week the battery level has continuously hovered around 90% even as the power is plugged in. I have tried disconnecting all peripherals and turning the computer off, but the indicator still tells me that the battery is charging. (Normally it takes about three hours to charge from empty. I think a week to incompletely charge from around 50% suggests that there's a problem).
This had happened before in the form of occasional chargings (when the computer was plugged in), but those times the computer actually finished charging within half an hour. This time, my computer has told me that it was charging for almost a week.
My one-year warranty is over; however, the computer was purchased with a Master Card so it's supposed to double the warranty period. In any case, I'd like to know if there was a way to solve this problem without having to miss my computer while it was being repaired.

I bought my computer from Circuit City over a year ago, meaning that the warranty is over. Mastercard doubles the warranty but I have to contact them instead of Toshiba, and I'm sure that mastercard doesn't have the expertise that Toshiba has.
In any case, I'd like to know if anyone else had this issue and whether anyone had found the cause and solution to it. I certainly hope that the solution will not involve buying a new battery ($$$$$) only a year into ownership!
