I was updating my BIOS because my Windows 7 was getting BSODs. I downloaded the 1.80 version of the BIOS and started to install in Windows 7. A few seconds after it started, the screen went blank. The backlight was lit, except there was nothing on the screen. After a few minutes, I restarted and now nothing comes up. The backlight isn't even lit.

I did have a CD when I restarted, and it spun up for a few seconds and then stopped. The fan still runs when I start.

Edit: I did upgrade the BIOS before (1.40 -> 1.50) with Windows 7, so I figured I could do it again. I just found the thread which states that I should NOT do it from Windows, but now it's too late.

Time to contact Toshiba Technical Support or Warranty Support depending on whether your warranty has expired or not.

Forgot to mention, the warranty has expired.

Then it's either Toshiba Repair or a shop like http://www.aqstech.com/ as it requires tools the average home user doesn't have.

Any ideas about how much something like this would cost?

Over a hundred bucks from what I've heard.  You would need to check with them to find out for sure.  AQS would be substantially less expensive though.

Wow... well I don't see why I would have to pay for it since it is Toshiba's utility that caused the problem...

Your best bet is to contact them to see what they have to say.  You'll need to call Tech Support on the phone to see about it though. We're just a bunch of users helping other users in these forums.

PJ, I had a bios repair done by aqs it was $100 + shipping.
