The problem is that Windows XP does not have native SATA support so the XP install disk doesn't see the drives on a SATA controller. Your XP disk also needs to be at a Service Pack 1 level or higher. You have two options to do this.
1: Integrate the SATA drivers into the disk as outlined in this guide. You will need to substitute the AMD SATA drivers for the Intel and JMicron drivers used in the tutorial as your system uses an AMD chipset.
2: Go into Bios Setup, look under the ADVANCED tab and change from AHCI to COmpatability mode (this only works if your model has this option, not all do). Once you have finished installing XP, install all of the drivers, then reset the bios back to AHCI mode for optimum performance.
I don't know where to find XP drivers for that system though. Toshiba is only providing a couple of the drivers here in the US. The European site is down for maintenance at the moment so I can't check there. When it comes back up you can check there to see if they have them (they often have XP drivers the US doesn't have). You'll probably need to look for drivers for an L500D with the short name of PSLM0E. If they don't have them you'll need to determine what all of the chipsets you have and go to each of the manufacturers website to download drivers (AMD, Realtek, Marvel, etc.)
