boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: atapi pciide

I use a Tecra M10 -ST9110 (PTMB3UTCFTGN)

These drivers correspond to the Intel Chipset Patch.  I install the patch but the error continues.

Any ideas how to get rid of this problem.

Tecra M10-ST9110

If the patch does not come from Toshiba, Bernie, it probably doesn't apply.

Which version of Windows do you have?

What error?

Windows XP.  The Patch states Windows XP

  1. Intel Chipset Patch (XP) 1.0
  2. Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility (3264bit)

Forget Event Viewer and Device Manager for a moment. What doesn't work right? What are the symptoms?

Where did you find that chipset software? Give me the URL.

I notice somebody else with that Event Viewer entry turned out to have a bad motherboard.

[ Edited ]

My Tecra doesn't hang anymore.  I reinstalled the chipset drivers and the patch found on my computer under Toshiba Application Recovery or http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=213259...

on the Toshiba site.  Both correspond to my computer.  As a Benchmark: The test I used to perform was a SCANPST.EXE and it lasted 6 minutes and 30 seconds... now it takes longer but the file is a bit larger too.  I do not have the original file to perform a benchmark.

Conclusion:  I do not know how this can impact my computer's performance.  The ShutDown and Suspend hang are over.  And I can also format SD memory cards which didn't work in the past.

Re: boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: atapi pciide

Nope... I don't think the motherboard is faulty, I have performed tests with the PC Diagnostic Tools provided by Toshiba.  Everything seams to be working fine.

Understanding the errors helped me get rid of a few things like Password Bank in Authenticate wasn't working either. etc etc....

I need to understand the source of this error message.  Are these drivers necesary?  Should I have installed the patch?  That's why I also asked about the proper driver/software installation sequence on another thread.

Thanks,

Berni
