Forum Guidelines and Tips [read only]

Forums Purpose
The Toshiba Laptop Forums are a set of public discussion boards, provided as a platform for Toshiba customers to share tips, ideas and information with each other about how to get the most value, productivity and enjoyment out of Toshiba laptop computers.

The Toshiba Laptop Forums are not an official avenue of customer service or technical support.  If you require assistance from Toshiba, please call the Toshiba Customer Support Center at 1-800-457-7777.


Forums Organization
The forums are organized into topical categories and message boards. Categories provide the high-level organizational structure on a broad topic, and the categories contain message boards on more specific topics within each category.

The forums are here to serve the interests and discussions of Toshiba laptop users. The organization of categories and message boards will change and evolve over time.  Message boards will be added as popular topics sustain a high level of interest and message activity, and message boards may be removed iif interest in the topic is very low.

If a message board is removed, its messages will be moved into a general topic area, not deleted. There will always be 'general' message areas for discussion of topics that do not have high enough activity levels to sustain their own dedicated message boards.

See the 'Detailed Forums Organization' reply to this message for a description of the current categories and message boards, and for suggestions of which message board to use for various types of messages.


About Messages
If you're new here, and you probably are if you're reading this, then you may want to browse around the various categories and message boards to become familiar with the territory. If you like the idea of browsing, but want to focus in on a specific topic, see the 'Detailed Forums Organization' message to narrow down where you want to browse.

If you're looking for specific information then your best bet may be to use the search feature.

As always when searching, if you get too many results that seem to not be what you're interested in, try adding search terms to more specifically target your interest.  If you get too few results or none at all, try reducing your search terms to allow a more broad set of search results.

If you can't find what you're looking for, the forums probably do not contain that information.  Consider that to be your golden opportunity to get more actively involved in the forums by starting a new thread (message board topic) and asking other forum members to provide the information you're looking for.  And while you're at it, if you see any message threads on topics where you have a bit of expertise, you're encouraged to "pay it forward" by helping others out.

Give and take of knowledge and information between forum members is what this community is all about, so if you see a chance to help and have a spare moment, jump right in.

Share. Help someone out every chance that you get.

Don't be overly shy.  If you have a question, ask it.  If you can answer someone else's question, please speak up and help out.

Be nice to others. Every question will have an answer that seems obvious to someone. That's one of the great strengths of community. So if you have an answer, contribute to the value of this community and reward the participation of the questioner by responding in a friendly and informative tone.

The Toshiba Laptop Forums are organized into four categories, with one or more message boards in each category.  This posting will be periodically updated, as the forum structure evolves, to always describe the current general purpose of each category and the specific purpose of each message board within that category.

Welcome and Forums Orientation category
Greeting and orientation about how to use the forums for visitors and new members.

Message board: Forum Guidelines and Tips [Read Only]
Information about how the forums work and appropriate use of the various features.  This is a Read Only message board.

Technology & Troubleshooting Discussions category

Issues related to technology and troubleshooting will often be common from product to product, so those with questions or knowledge in particular technology topics can zero in on their area of interest or expertise.

Message boards for Technology & Troubleshooting Discussions category
For technology topics that do not have their own message board, the 'General...' message board may be used. Technology topics with very high levels of message activities in the 'General...' message board may be split off into their own separate message boards.

Product Discussions category
Questions and comments about specific Toshiba laptop models, organized by the product families.  Product families with high activity levels may be further divided into sub-categories with message boards for various models within those families.  

Message boards for Product Discussions category
Questions and comments about specific products can be posted in the message board by product family. Product families with very high levels of message activities may be split up, by model, into separate message boards. The message boards in the Product Discussions category are:

• Satellite Pro Laptops
• Tecra Laptops
• Projectors

 

The Laptop Lounge category

Message boards in this area are designed for general community development and socializing.  The topics should be related to laptop computing and mobility but need not be strictly associated with specific Toshiba products.

Message board: Welcome & Introductions
Introduce yourself and welcome new forum members by replying to their introductions. Feel free to share info about your hobbies, special interests and expertise.  You might also want to tell us which Toshiba laptop(s) you currently own or use and other models you have previously owned or used.
 

Message board: Open Topic
This area is designated for "birds of a feather" discussions on any topic related to laptop computers and mobility, outside of the categories of specific products and technical troubleshooting discussions.  As ongoing discussions develop critical mass among groups with common interests (e.g. gaming, education, small/medium business, etc.), new message boards may be established in the Lounge category to house those discussions.
