My Toshiba A135-S4437 stopped showing the Windows Vista login screen. It boots showing Vista's progress indicator and then goes blank. It is nota as the system have "hanged", because I can hear the system sound of the finished boot. I was suspecting a hardware problem, so I downloaded a new copy of the BIOS (v1.9) and updated it. That did not correct the problem.
I tried to boot from my original Windows Vista Home Premium full install DVD and it repeats the same error, after the initial progress indicator it goes blank, making it impossible to re-install the OS.
I managed to low level format my HD and do a fresh install of Windows XP (SP3) though, and it works fine! I even tried a bootable Linux disc, ant it also worked!! The problem with running XP is that I don't have any drivers, since this model was made por Windows Vista.
What can be happening? What kind of bug could prevent only Windows Vista to work on this computer? Thanks for any help or ideas.
