Re: CPU Upgrade of L 305

As long as the cpu matches the specs of the T3400 that system came with.  You will need to match the socket type and fsb at the very minimum.

Your best bet for that specific of info is one of the Notebook Enthusiast Forums where they deal with modifying them, something that isn't really covered here in any detail.  I won't go out on a limb with a specific recommendation due to liability issues.  Since I don't know for sure if the bios will support it I won't make that call.

Re: CPU Upgrade of L 305

Dear Sir,

The matter I bought this L305-S5926 is that, Im working in the Oil & Gas field in United Arab Emirates..

I cannot use any mobile phone with camera or any laptop with camera..

In the case of mobile, Im using a Nokia E 51 without camera and as I like Toshiba products, I bought this laptop....

There is no other option for me in performance and reliability other than Toshiba.

Thats y I asked ur opinion in upgrading my CPU as Im having a very low configuration right now..

I want my laptop to be more powerful as I love this very much ...

kindly give your suggestions..

It has 7 months warranty also..

Re: CPU Upgrade of L 305

Once you open it up and replace the cpu you won't have any warranty at all on it.

The 7600 would be a bit faster than the 7400, but I don't know how much faster either would be than the T3400 that is in it now (I have a T3400 in my L305-S5933 and don't find it to be lacking in performance, but that could just be me).

Re: CPU Upgrade of L 305

A few things you should probably consider:

Even if the CPU is the correct socket, FSB, voltage, etc. and is electrically compatible, it's not guaranteed to work. The BIOS in most laptops is coded to accept a limited number of different CPUs. If the CPU you insert isn't one of those, it will either work only at the lowest clock speed, or not work at all. Physically getting to the CPU isn't easy, either, and if you haven't successfully disassembled and reassembled a laptop before, you may want to reconsider. Plus, like cee_64 mentioned, your warranty will be void once you open the laptop.

CPU is only one part of 'performance'. If you want it to be faster while multitasking several large programs, you may be better off upgrading the RAM. If you want programs to load faster, upgrade to a faster hard drive. For gaming, a better graphics processor is best, but is not an option on the vast majority of laptops. If web pages and downloads take too long, upgrade your Internet connection. If you're running Windows Vista or later, with less than 2GB of RAM, you'll probably see the best improvement by upgrading to at least 3GB.

If you computer was fast when you bought it, has been slowing down since then, and is now performly really slowly, you should look at the software level. Try disabling programs from starting when you boot your computer (using msconfig). You may also have a virus/spyware on the computer (even if your antivirus doesn't warn you, and even if you don't notice anything unusual, like pop-ups). Try doing a free online scan from Panda Security (ActiveScan) and/or Trend Micro (HouseCall). Your hard drive may even need to be defragmented.

Re: CPU Upgrade of L 305

anarchy_1024, extrememly well stated.  Much better than what I posted.  That system of his, a L305-S5926 is essentially the same as my L305-S5933 hardware wise with one exception.  Mine came with 3gig of ram while his has 2gig.  Both cam with the same T3400 cpu, hard drive, and Vista Home Premium 32bit.  While I'm not doing any video editing on it, I don't notice any performance issues on it (and I use a custom built 3ghz Intel Quad Core system with high end graphics as my desktop for most of my computing so I'm comparing it to a substantial system).  I did get rid of the performance killing Norton Security Suite that it came with which helped quite a bit as well as dumping VIsta in favor of XP and Win 7 which also helped a lot.

Gaming isn't really a priority to me so I don't find the integrated Intel 4500 graphics to be a hinderance, but a real gamer certainly would and that, as you said, isn't upgradable on that laptop.

Re: CPU Upgrade of L 305

The Satellite L305D-S5974 spec states:

Processor

3 and Graphics4

AMD Sempron™ Processor for Notebook PCs SI-42

2.1GHz, 512KB L2 Cache, 3.6GT/s

ATI Radeon™ 3100 Graphics with dynamically allocated shared

Memory

Configured with 3GB DDR2 800MHz (max 4GB)

graphics memory.

I'm trying to interpret this.  Does this mean it comes with 512KB RAM, and based on the information in your post,  is way too low for good performance?

Re: CPU Upgrade of L 305

No.  The cpu has 512kb of onboard L2 cache .  The system itself has 3GB of Ram.  If you don't understand what onboard cache is and how it affects performance see this article.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU_cache
