Specifically which M35? Toshiba makes several different models. Most are about 4 to 5 years old.
What hard drive did you purchase? From what I can tell based on the M35-S359 the bios in those doesn't support 48bit addressing so it can only use a hard drive smaller than 137gb in size, effectively limiting you to a 120gig drive. Ther is no bios update to address this issue and none of the various software hacks are reliable enough to depend upon.
And what version of Windows are you trying to install?
If you don't bother to post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

Office XP isn't an Operating System, it's the Office Suite with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. You need an actual Operating System Instal Disk to install an operating system.
- XP Home Edition
- XP Professional Edition
- Vista
- WIndows 7

Is that XP disk from your Desktop from a Dell, HP, Compaq, or other name brand desktop?

That's why it isn't working. It's tied to a Dell system bios and won't install on anything else. Plus it's against the EULA to install it on anything other than the Dell system it shipped with. When you come up with a legal copy of Windows let us know and we'll see what we can do.

Your best bet would be to order replacement Recovery Media from Toshiba. That would have the drivers and utilities along with the operating system and make it easier to install and setup. See this post for details.
