Satellite hard drive failure, just recieved back from Toshiba depot.

[ Edited ]

Hey,

Well just throwing this out there to see if anyone has any advice,

I own a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5885, works great.

I had a recent problem with it's optical drive and hard drive, so I sent it off to Toshiba depot with details about the problems, under warranty.

The techs took a look at it and this was the report returned;

Symptoms: Defective optical drive causing the noise. Damage base causing DC-IN to be loose. Hard drive and memory passed all tests, missing dll file crucial to booting into windows. Factory software was reloaded.

Ignore the rest, I want to focus mainly on "Hard drive and memory passed all tests,"

If they passed their "tests", why am I still recieving a hard drive failure notice from windows?

ps; I just recieved the laptop back from depot today. Turned it on, loaded windows, opened IE, browsed for 1 minute, and this appeared.

Hard disk failure

Thanks in advance !

Re: Satellite hard drive failure, just recieved back from Toshiba depot.

Most repair facilities have a standard process for testing hardware.  If you document that your hdd is experiencing a hardare problem, then the repair center is going to test it using the standard process. If it passes, the unit is considered functional.

If you clearly define the problem as experienced, the repair center can attempt to duplicate the problem.

In a nutshell, you need to accurately document the events leading up to the problem and clearly define the problem.  This allows the repair center to duplicate the problem, implement the solution, and then verify that the problem has been resolved.

Okay, that was understandable.

Any other advice leading to a solution?
