Toshiba Fingerprint Utility Error
I upgraded by Satellite E105-1402 to Windows 7. Initially I was using the old Vista TrueSuite software to login to windows. Then I noticed that there was a Toshiba Fingerprint Utility for Windows 7 on the website. I uninstalled the old TrueSuite software and installed the Toshiba FIngerprint Utility version 1.0.2.9. However, whenever I try to enroll my fingerprints, there is an error that says "Operation Failed. Duplicate Template Exists." What might be the problem and how can I get this to work. In addition, the firefox plugin that comes with this version of the utility does not work and prevents firefox from opening. I had to open firefox in safe mode and disable the fingerprint plugin for firefox to start working again. Toshiba should rewrite the plugin for the latest version of Firefox.

Write them a letter or call them at 800-457-7777. This forum is just users helping users, no Toshiba support at all. In fact, the Toshiba employees moderating it are specifically enjoined from providing technical support. All official Toshiba technical support is over the telephone.

Hello.
I have the same problem when I upgraded my Toshiba Portege R600 from ****ing Vista shoing bluescreen all the time to Windows 7 64 bit.
Fingerprint application does not work, even if software is made for windows 7, dated 3.9.2009.
Any suggestion?

This is what I call good Toshiba support. They actually listen to problems and fix them.

Actuality that utility seems to be the cause for the error, since it uninstalls the software but leaves any existing fingerprint data in the system, thus preventing the addition of new fingerprints for fingers that had been recorded before.
Shame, really, cause otherwise the Windows 7 migration process was smooth and problem free.

Hi
I had the same problem. If you did not scan all 10 fingers, try to scan some unscanned - then you can erase all scanned finger (Fingerprint Control is enabled)

We (Toshiba Tech Support Tier 2 & I) worked through this one early this morning. Clean install of Windows 7 Pro onto a Portege M700 was made last night. Fingerprint utility would go through the paces of registering, but then would not allow a save of the information.
It turns out that for some reason, in some instances, it is necessary to have two profiles active at the time of the installation of the fingerprint utility on Windows 7.
What we did was uninstalled the utility (util_tam_uninstall_TC00240000B.exe), activate a second account (we used the "Guest" account) and then did a reinstall (util_fingerprint_TC00239700A.exe). Ran through the fingerprint registration and it saved. It also asked for a second sampling (different finger) and it also worked.
After rebooting and checking that all worked, I disabled the "Guest" account and then tried locking the computer. The fingerprint scan worked nicely and unlocked the machine. Another reboot and test of the login using fingerprint and all is well. I'm back in business.
Both of the programs used were available through the download page of the support site (http://pcsupport.toshiba.com/windows7) - click on download tab and follow the prompts to get to downloads for your machine.
FYI

Zagreb's solution is the easiest one: record some prints, choose the FingerPrint control option in the utility, then click the Delete All buton and the problem is fixed.

I agree, unfortunately it didn't work here. We were not allowed to record "any" prints in the file.
After we received 3 good input scans, then 3 good check scans, we were told that they were good - but then we were told it could not be recorded.
