USB Driver Issue Installing Mouse

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-6825 that I purchased from Best BuyI am using a USB mouse from LabtecOn the right front corner of my laptop I can only get one of the USB ports to recognize the mouseWhen I plug in the USB cable to the mouse I get dialogue saying the driver is being downloaded and then the device has been installed correctly, but the mouse fails to operateI plug the same mouse into the second USB port on the right front corner of the laptop and it works perfectlyMy printer is plugged into the other USB port on the right front corner that would not work with the USB mouse, so it appears the USB port is functional, but for some reason will not support the mouseIt's simple enough to switch the two and make them both (mouse and printer) operational, but the laptop is brand new and I am concerned that one of the USB ports is not working properly.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: USB Driver Issue Installing Mouse

I have the same problem with my 3 1/2 month old A305-S6872. My Microsoft mouse will work fine in either of the right-hand USB ports, but will stop after a few hours. Then up pops the message that the device is not recognized by the USB port. I have then plugged in another new mouse and it is not recognized. I have not installed any drivers for it as it says driver is found. I read hours of the forum dealing with this problem, but now cannot find one thread that was helpful, suggesting adding a separate USB Hub and plugging the mouse into that. I purchased a Cyberpower Hub CPH720P 7-port Hub from Newegg for about $41 including shipping and plugged everything into that. Now my optical mouse works all the time! I don't like to use the touch pad. Someone else mentioned that the USB ports on this model have a sleep & charge function and that could be part of the problem. I have yet to look into that. The new hub works beautifully and has solved my problem, but I did plug it into my surge protector to provide extra power to the Hub.

I must add that this is my third Toshiba laptop. My other two were great, problem-free! So I am disappointed at some of the problems I have had with this new one.

Do have sleep and charge enabled in BIOS?  Try booting and hittign the ESC or F2 key to get into BISO and look at it.

Re: USB Driver Issue Installing Mouse

I didn't know how to get to the BIOS, so thank you for that. The sleep-charge function was disabled, so I left it in that mode. As the hub solved my problem, I didn't want to mess with changing the sleep-charge function, but would be interested if that helps anyone else with this problem.
