Hi folks.
I have a Satellite Pro A200 running Vista Home Premium (SP2).
Recently tried to transfer some large files to a memory card and also to a stick (both genuine).
Am getting really slow speeds (anywhere between 30kb/sec to a max of 700kb/sec), so you can imagine how long it is taking .
I have read the net about the issue but have not found a definite reply....maybe its by driver or something... I have attached a pic of My devices which appears when nothing is plugged into any of the 4 ports...is it normal to have so many under the USB menu? would any of this be the reason (i.e. would tehy be running at 1.1 for some strange reason?)
Any help would be great..

There's a Vista feature that's been reported to possibly cause this problem. Remote Differential Compression attempts to moderate bandwidth when copying files. It looks to see if the file is already present in the target location and, if that's the case, analyzes whether it can just transmit the changes without copying the whole file again. This feature is not implemented very well and can slow file transfers rather than speed them.
Your solution may be to turn off Remote Differential Compression. Launch Programs and Features from Control Panel and click the Turn Windows features on or off link at left. Find Remote Differential Compression in the list, uncheck its check box, and click OK. This change may need a reboot to take effect.
Let us know if it helps.

Sorry that didn't help.
I don't have any other suggestions. If I think of one, I'll reply.
Perhaps a Windows guru might suggest something else.

You might get a little higher transfer rate using the NTFS file system. Most USB flash drives are formatted in FAT32 for ease of use with other operating systems.
Roy Longbottom, who posts in CompuServe, has done some benchmarking along these lines. See his comments in, for example, this thread..
USB Flash drive transfer speeds?
and elsewhere in this CompuServe Forum..
