a55-s106 recovery

I have a satellite a55-s106. When turning on the computer, it just stays on the windows xp start up screen continually. After a while ion this screen (about 10-15 mins) the screen goes blank with amessage at the top saying something about a checksum error. I have tried starting in safe mode, with the same outcome. I have my recovey disc, but i don't know how to make the computer read from the disc drive on start up. Any suggestions?

Re: a55-s106 recovery

There are about three ways I know to make the DVD drive the first boot device on a Toshiba laptop. First go into the Bios and change the Boot Priority to that the CD/DVD drive is the first boot device. On most Toshiba laptops, you can go into the Bios by holding down the Escape key followed by the F1 key or by hitting the F2 key right after the computer turns on. Next way to have the DVD drive as the boot device is to hit the F12 key a couple times right after you turn on the computer. This should bring up a group of icons on the screen. Use the arrow keys to get to the CD icon and hit the Enter key. The final way is to hit the letter "C" when the computer first turns on.

Either way you should be able to boot from the Recovery DVDs and reimage the hard drive. The whole process should take about 40 minutes.

Re: a55-s106 recovery

Tried all of these suggestions, cant get any of them to work. hitting esc on start up just makes it ask me for a password, which i dont have. Hitting any of the other keys suggested (F2, F12, or C) on start up has no affect. Any other ideas? Thank you!
