Ok, I feel kinda silly for asking this, but if I can get any sort of answer that would be great. Lately my laptop has been making some strange and very loud noises. Does it mean my computer is going to crash? I know, I don't want to sound like an idiot, but this noise has me worried. Is the cooling system failing?

You should not be hearing too much noise from the computer. There are typically 3 places that you will hear noise. One is the CPU fan. It will turn on intermittently to push hot air out thru the vents. The next is the hard drive. As information is accessed or written, the hard drive will spin up and the read-write heads will travel back and forth reading the data. Finally, the DVD drive will spin as it is reading or writing data to the disk. None of the 3 should be too noisy. However, excess noise could be a warning of problems. Make sure you have your data backed up. Which is always a good idea. Is the computer feeling hot or warmer than normal? Could be an indicator of fan problems. You may want to check for dust or dirt in the vents. If the noise continues, get the computer checked out by a Toshiba repair center. Hate to see an expensive computer damaged by an over sight.

Thanks so much for the help. The noise has mysteriously disappeared. I had a system warning saying something wrong with the cooling system. I turned my laptop off for awhile and today so far so good. I am so grateful and relieved it has gone. Hopefully it won't returned. I did take your advice on cleaning the computer to remove dust.
