mscoree.dll error

Everytime I try and access certain programs (example jpeg files), I get a window error stating " this application has failed to start because mscoree.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem" I have done a search on the problem, but cannot seem to resolve it. I have a Toshiba Satellite 588t with Windows Vista. Please advice.

Re: mscoree.dll error

Sounds like Microsoft Net Framework is damaged.  You should try re-install Net Framework 2.0 along with all of it's service packs.

Re: mscoree.dll error

I downloaded and tried to re-install .NET framework 2.0, but at the end it gave me an error message stating that the product was already installed as part of the operating system.

Does this mean I will have to use my recovery cds and re-install the entire operating system... backing up my data etc...

Thanks

I don't know.  You might have better luck posting in Microsoft's Windows Forums about this or hope that Jerry _Lippey finds this thread.

Try running sfc /scannow at an elevated command prompt.

Re: mscoree.dll error

OK, tried the sfc/scannow..and it completed the verification process, there was a 15 minute wait and the prompt then stated "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation"...tried it twice, same response.. (:

Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation

Please run chkdsk /f ("Automatically fix file system errors" in the following article) and then try sfc again.
