Service status should be stopped??

Yes, it's normally stopped.

I couldnt get any further

Huh? You only reported on items 1 and 2. Please do the others. They do not depend upon each other.

You need to do your part here!

Also, add this one.

7. Open Services (services.msc) and try to start the Windows Installer. Copy down the precise error message and put it on a separate line here.

Re: windows installer missing??? Satellit A505-S6960

Jerry...

I did attempt to do all the things you specified but they did not work.  You suggested that I get familiar with thThe computer would not open any log.....so I could not view it.

When I attempting to start the installer I received the following error message:

Windows could not start the windows installer service on local computer.  Error 3:  The system cannot find the path specified

I did attempt to do all the things you specified but they did not work.

"They did not work" tells me nothing!

Please go down the list. For each item, tell me what you did and exactly what happened. Remember, I cannot see what you are doing and what you are seeing. Unless you tell me, I'm flying blind.

Error 3:  The system cannot find the path specified

In particular, what happens for Item #3?

Without your help, there's nothing to say.

1.  Received error message:

The syntax of this command is:

2.  Properties are

     Path to executable c:\windows\systems23\msiexec.exe/V

     Start type manual

     Service status stopped

3.  It is present in the system 32 folder

Re: windows installer missing??? Satellit A505-S6960

Thanks for all that information. It helps a lot.

6.  when I enter findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt as layed out in the link you provided my system does nothing.

It (quietly) wrote the file sfcdetails.txt in the folder that the command prompt opens to. (I can't tell you what the default is, because I changed mine.)

Locate the file and attach it to your reply if it is not too large.

2.  Properties are

     Path to executable c:\windows\systems23\msiexec.exe/V

Each of the last three characters in "systems23" is incorrect. Please carefully verify that all of those are your typing errors.

4.

The Windows Installer service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

Even so, put this into the Start menu's Search field. It should open the System32 folder.

   c:\windows\system32

Let's add..

7. Download and run a scan with the free Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
