Address bar

wierd problem. This is my second replacement for 505-s8946(1st replacement was and HP), I now have the 8980. All of a sudden when I type a URL into the address bar from the taskbar, i get and incorrect syntax error msg! Address bar within IE works fine! Any ideas?

You want us to guess. With a P in front maybe?

Satellite P505-S8980

Please quote the precise message on a line by itself. No paraphrasing. Spelling counts (put the P in). I don't care what it says - just want an accurate string of characters. Okay?

Re: Address bar

First thing I would try is to remove the Address toolbar from the taskbar, reboot, Windows, and then put it back.

If it's still giving trouble..

What happens when you type a computer path like %systemroot% or %userprofile% into the Address bar?

Re: Address bar

No go on reboot option. When I type in the systemroot and userprofile, it works and brings up the associated folders. I'm beginning to think it is a software(win7) problem?

[ Edited ]

Seems like the .url extension is broken.

What happens when you put a shortcut on your desktop with a web address in it?

Create a shortcut using the following characters. Type them in.

   http://www.microsoft.com

Then see if it works.

Re: Address bar

Dig down this way.

Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or a protocol with a program

Scroll down to the .url extension.

What program is set to open? The default is Internet Explorer.
