Re: Alps v7.102.302.101, Scroll/Browser stops working; have to restart to gain functionality

Okay, I got it. Don't know how I missed it before.

   ALPS Touch Pad Driver (64bit)

Don't know if we covered this before either. Does Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) show an Alps device under Mice and other pointing devices?

Do you have unzipping software like WinZip or do you run a Windows Explorer replacement like PowerDesk? We want to decompress the driver_touchpad_alps_28010C.exe file without executing it.

Yes. The only device it shows is the ALPS device.

I downloaded WinZip to try to unzip the file without executing it, but it is not in a .zip extention. The file is in a .exe entention. Right-clicking on the file does not give the option to unzip, and when I manually tried with Winzip it said that the file is not in the .zip format.

It's a self-extracting file.

When I right-click on the file and select WinZip, it gives me the option of Extract To. Try that.

When extracting it to a folder, it creates 6 folders and 153 files.

Got them all to extract. Once extracted, tried running setup and I got the same exact message stating this is not compatible with my OS. I am hitting the sack for the night, but appreciate your help!

Okay, now we're going to try installing a different way.

In Device Manager, right-click the Alps device and click Update Driver Software and then Browse my computer for driver software.

Navigate to the *.inf file in the folder you decompressed to. (I think it's apfiltr.inf.)

Good luck!

Re: Alps v7.102.302.101, Scroll/Browser stops working; have to restart to gain functionality

Tried 2 ways:

Navigated to Device manager, right clicked on the ALPS mouse, clicked update driver. It then gives me 2 options: 1) Search Automatically for the updated driver software

2) Browse my computer for driver software

I chose #2. When clicking number 2, you then have 2 more options

1) Browse to the folder where I unzipped the driver

2) Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

I chose number 1, and browsed to the folder where I unzipped the drivers. I made sure "include subfolders" was checked, and hit next. The next window that comes up states "Windoes has determined the driver software for your device is up to date           Alps Pointing-device"

only option here is close.

I then started over, and got to here again

I chose #2. When clicking number 2, you then have 2 more options

       1) Browse to the folder where I unzipped the driver

       2) Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Instead of chosing number 1 this time, I chose number 2, and pointed it to the apfiltr.inf file. I then got the following popup where the only option is to close:

"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems."

Sometimes I think that if I purchased the same model as my wife (who has a Synaptics driver) I would have been a lot happier! I tried installing her driver on mine, and that was a no-go either!

The weird thing - if you ask windows to search automatically for the driver, it will update it to a synaptics driver which is recognized as a PS/2 mouse with no advanced functionality.

"Windoes has determined the driver software for your device is up to date

What happens when you uninstall the driver first?

And check for an entry to remove under Add or Remove Programs.

Re: Alps v7.102.302.101, Scroll/Browser stops working; have to restart to gain functionality

I have the exact same problem, driving my crazy.  Toshiba laptop PSSB0E-02J00MN5.  Windows 7 - 64 bit.

I use Windows explorer and after a while the blue bar on the touchpad gets stuck and scroll wont work until next restart, this happens every day.  Device manager says there are no problems with the driver 7.102.302.104.

I think it's the touchpad software that's faulty.

You'd be better off posting in the European Forums.

Wouldn't surprise me too much if Toshiba does not supply all the 64-bit drivers for that computer since it was released with 32-bit Windows.

YEP! His driver does the same thing as mine! No resolution to date - I have learned to live with it, and will probably not be buying anouther Toshiba again. Just installed Vista SP2 - still no fix.
