I did a search and found similar topics but there is no fix for this problem. My computer (A355D-S6889) came with this driver. When I am browsing the internet, the scroll functionality locks up which also locks up the browser area of the touchpad. It seems this happens if I scroll before letting a webpage fully load. The only way to regain this functionality is to restart the computer. I have tried updating the driver from the control panel, but it installs a Synaptics driver with no advanced functions (it is recognized as a general pointing device). I have tried installing and reinstalling the driver, and get the same results. When the scrolling locks up, it displayes the blue vertical (or hotizontal) line in the touchpad icon in the system tray (by the clock on the task bar). The blue line does not go away until I restart the computer. My wife has a similar computer (M305 series) with a Synaptics driver and she has had no problems. I have tried updating to her driver, but vista will not allow this update stating that the diver is not compatible with this model number. Any help would be appreciated (but I think Toshiba needs to update this driver to solve the problem)

Alps v7.102.302.101
So you have the Alps device.
Alps Pointing Device Driver for Windows Vista
See if uninstalling the driver first helps. There may also be a utility to uninstall. Check in Programs and Features.

Hi Jerry. I had tried uninstalling/reinstalling - all was great for 5 minutes, then had the same issue. It seems there may be some issue with the actual driver. Sometimes I am using the mouse via the touchpad, and it stops working. I have to lift my finger from the touchpad and wait a few seconds, then it will work again. When this happens, I am in the center of the touchpad, so I am not going into the inertial movement area/browser area/scroll area.
I am very experienced with computers, and it is bothering me that I cannot find a solution for this!

Tried to download the driver in your post again. When I am running it, it stops and says that this is not compatible with my operating system (which is vista 64)

Open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) and expand Mice and other pointing devices. Double-click the Alps device and see what Device status has.
it stops and says that ..
Please quote the exact message - character-by-character. I don't care what it means.

This is the message (the string of characters) I want to see.

Sure thing! When I go to run the program a popup comes up from WinZip Self Extractor - driver_touchpad_alps_28101A.exe. This popup states " ALPS Pointing Device Driver v. 7.2.302.101. Setup will start when extraction is complete. Please restart your computer after installation is complete. Copyright(c) 2008 TOSHIBA Corporation. All rights Reserved.
There are 3 buttons to the right: Setup, Cancel, About. I click setup and the following happens:
The file looks like it is extracting (a blue line with some file names pop up for about 3 seconds - they went too fast for me to see what they were).
after this is done, another box pops up:
Setup.exe on the top
The contents of this box say:
"This software does not work on your operating system. Click OK to exit setup." The only option on this box os "OK".
Once I click OK, it exits setup.

I don't see an Alps touchpad driver for Vista 64-bit on that model's web page.
Please ask Toshiba tech support where that is. Call 800-457-7777.

It is listed under the Model Content Page:
then refine search to Vista 64, then to touchpad. There are 2 drivers listed:
Touchpad
Touchpad
I tried uninstalling my driver, and reinstalling the Alps - Same problem. I then deleted the Alps driver and installed the Synaptics one only to find that I loose all the advanced features. It recognized my touchpad as a general mouse, and did not provide browser or scroll support.
