Re: M305D-S4830 Multi media buttons stopped working

Jerry,

I downloaded the package and tried to install it. I get an ID_ERR_NOTINSTALLTVALZ_MESSAGE and the process aborts that the install was interupted. I am running Norton 360. I did  the installation as administrator

Thanks

Chuck, try uninstalling the utility from Control Panel's Programs and Features. Then reboot and try the installation again.

Re: M305D-S4830 Multi media buttons stopped working

Jerry,

The error message I had was due to using the Vista release of the utilities. I am running Vista-64. After getting a sucessfull install, and rebooting, I still have the original probelm - media keys don't work. This isn't a major problem, I would like them to work again. There must be some easy way to reset these buttons. I wonder if a windows update clobbered them. If you have any other idea, pass theem on.

Thanks

Chuck

Re: M305D-S4830 Multi media buttons stopped working

I too have this problem - My Mute and CD/DVD touch buttons do not work anymore on my M300 laptop.

I only bought this laptop a month ago.  Came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Toshiba Value Added Package (the right one for 64-bit Vista), but still not working.

I did a System Restore to when the buttons last worked and they DID work.  Undid the Restore and I'm back where I was - buttons don't do anything. This leads me to believe an update must have poached the functionality... Funny though because the pause/play stop and chapter touch buttons still work.

I compared the registry entries that seemed to correspond to these buttons - beginning at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TOSHIBA\TBS of before (when it worked) and after (it stopped working), but it's exactly the same.

The only updates installed between the two states (not including Office updates) are:

Security Update for CAPICOM (KB931906)

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB958687)

I can't see how these would result in the loss of touch button functionality.

Has anyone figured this out yet?  Or have a suggestion? Much appreciated.

Jerry,

That is correct - util_tvap_27651B is the 64 bit version. I'm going to try removing it again and usign Toshiba's software assisant to reinstall. Some one else has this problem too. I wonder what would happen if I tried an external keyboard that has multi-function  keys on it? Do you know what the default keyboad is for the laptop or if there is special one?

I agree with your conclusion that a MS update clobbered the setup. I haven't tried the play/chapters buttons yet. I'll give them a try later tonight. I also wonder that I changed some settings in the Smart Audio if that may have done something. Toshiba should have a utility that can reset these buttons. As I posted to Jerry, I may try an external keyboard and see what happens.

So far as I know, Chuck, any US USB keyboard can be plugged in.
