Thanks, I did that and some improvement. My observation is that the size and placement of the touchpad leads to a lot of false taps and signals. If I am careful about the position of my thumbs then I don't have any problems.

I too am having touchpad issues on my NB 205. The problem I am having is the stuttering and unresponsiveness as well. I have no trouble with jumping while typing. I sure hope there is a fix for this because otherwise this is an amazing netbook. Unfortunately, now I am forced with trying to decide on returning it as I have had it for about three months now.

Jim, could you give us an approximation of when a solution to this problem will be posted on this board? I think everyone would appreciate a ball park timeline. Thanks.

gups..we all would like a ballpark frame to work within, however, generally not feasible as testing and duplication of problem, board specs, software syntax code, filter interaction, grounding, shell shield construction, etc all must be considered[even outsourced back to designer/engineer firms who made components] to observe concern being surfaced. As I stated before patience is needed, and as you previously posted you have a 30 day return period. Maybe try another unit to observe if concern is still there would be a feasible option and thus extend your return policy period. Just a thought here.

If you are experiencing frequent stuttering or delays of the cursor tracking finger motion on the touchpad, please make sure you have the most current Touchpad driver. The first version to resolve this symptom for a known software cause is available here, but if there's a later version available for download here then use the latest.
It is also generally advisable to check advanced configuration options in Windows Control Panel's mouse and pointer settings whenever experiencing Touchpad issues, to rule out the possibility of a configuration issue before returning your NB205 to your dealer or having it repaired. Touchpad drivers have many options relating to motion sensitivity, tap sensitivity, scrolling regions, browser controls, etc., so familiarize yourself with the options to make sure the problem you're experiencing isn't a feature. ;-)
For those with NB205's made prior to September 09, a problem in the manufacturing process of the touchpad assembly in some NB205's has been identified and corrected. Owners of older NB205 mini notebooks purchased in the U.S. who are experiencing frequently stuttering cursor movement when using the built in touchpad, and for whom a driver update and configuration settings adjustments do not resolve the problem, are advised to return the product to the point of purchase for refund or replacement or to have the product repaired under warranty.
To arrange for warranty repair of a mini notebook call the Toshiba Customer Support Center at 1-800-457-7777. Warranty repairs for the mini notebook models are performed only at a central depot in California, so please do not take them to any other repair center.
Thanks,
Jim

this is great news! i've been wanting to buy this netbook, but the touchpad issues (which i read from user reviews on amazon) have held me back. it's a good thing i've been following this thread.
i've got a question, though. i'm in canada, and would this apply to the equivalent (which i'm assuming is NB200-02)? are NB200-02 netbooks being sold in stores in canada going to be replaced with fixed netbooks?

Jim,
I'm delighted to learn from you that the "problem in the manufacturing process of the NB205's touchpad assembly has been identified and corrected."
My question: as of what manufacture date?
Because yesterday I went to my local Best Buy and Micro Center.
In both instances the NB205s demos had the touchpad problems.
Needless to say I didn't buy it.
And I don't want to go through the hassle of buying a defective unit and then having to go through the ordeal of having it repaired.
Bottom line: as of what manufacture date can I be sure that I will get the corrected rather than a defective version?
Thanks,
ALR

Jim - Thanks for your update. I have been following this thread closely, as I am thinking of buying 2 of thhe NB205s. The only thing holding me back was this trackpad/cursor issue, which seems to be mentioned frequently on other sites as well.
Now that Toshiba has identified and corrected the issue, I have the following questions:
1. Since this was a manufacturing issue, and has only been corrected as of yesterday, does that mean that all the previous shipments of this model have the defect? The reason I ask is that I am considering ordering two of these from Amazon.com. However, like the previous poster, I don't want to be in a position where I knowingly buy a defective product only to deal with the hassle of returning it and waiting for a replacement. I would only buy it if I knew that it was an updated model. Are you going to recall the unsold models from retailers like Amazon and replenish them with the corrected ones?
2. Could you elaborate on what exactly the problem was and the saubsequent solution?
Thanks!
Ashton
