lack of tap response is included in the symptoms.
You might want to try reinstalling the touchpad driver. Check in Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) to see which one you have.

Thanks to all who have assisted with troubleshooting in this thread so far.
I can now report that the symptom of the mouse cursor stalling or responding intermittently to trackpad input on some NB205 units has been confirmed by Toshiba engineering staff.
There is ongoing work and we do not yet have a confirmed solution to report, but I will post updates to this thread as new information becomes available.
Meanwhile, please continue to take normal troubleshooting steps for trackpad problems in general (as in this message, for example), since some instances of similar problems may be resolved with device configuaration or driver reinstallation.
Thanks,
Jim

I was having the same problem. Especially after typing, when I would move my finger along the trackpad the mouse wouldn't move. I'd have to keep wiggling my finger and then eventually it would "pick up."
Do you have "tapping" on (when you tap the trackpad it acts like you clicked the left button). If so turn it off in the control panels. If you use tapping you might continue to get the same problem, fortunately I don't, so now the mouse works like it's supposed to.
I hope this works for you guys like it did for me.
(Control Panel > Mouse > Advanced (Tab on top) > Advanced Feature Settings > Click Settings by Pointer Speed and Tapping Settings and then uncheck ENABLE TAPPING.

..uncheck ENABLE TAPPING.
Yes, that usually works.
Mouse pointer jumps around as you type
Apparently, something else is involved here.

A quick update, alas with no substantial news...
We have so far only been able to find one NB205 with the type of intermittent trackpad symptom described in this thread. Staff doing testing seem to get varying results, possibly indicating sensitivity to finger position/angle or environmental variables.
If anyone reading this is still experiencing the problem, please send me a Private Message with your daytime phone number.

I considered purchasing an NB205 and tried a blue and a white model out in two different stores. Each time I tried typing in Notepad to see if I liked the keyboard or not I experienced the following symptom. Randomly while typing the window would lose focus and the cursor would jump to the desktop. This happened several times. I then went to the other store where the same thing happened. Needless to say I decided not to consider the NB205 in my purchase. With two units doing the same thing, it is probably not a bad unit.
I tried lifting my hands up in the air to be sure I was not accidently hitting the touchpad, and although I can't be certain I didn't touch it, I am fairly sure I didn't. It seemed like some process in the background was grabbing the focus and cursor, as well as a slight glitch went through the screen at the same time. I'd like to give it another try, but not sure when I'll be back to the store.
I came into the forums to see if anyone else was experiencing this problem, and found this thread. Typing, the ability to touch type at speed, is the main criteria I have for choosing a netbook. I was interested in the Tosbhia because of the reptutation for reliability and the long battery life, despite the slightly heavier weight.
Hope this helps someone.

Hi Steve,
This sure sounds like a classic case of accidentally swiping & tapping the touchpad while typing. Definitely a different symptom from the OP, but worth mentioning just the same.
I guess one way to test whether or not there's some other process pulling focus to the Desktop would be to just stop typing and move your hands completely away from the keyboard & touchpad. If it's some other process causing the problem then the focus should leave Notepad and go to the Desktop regardless of whether you're typing or not.
Just a thought, in case you get back to a store and want to take another look...

Any solution found yet? New drivers didn't help. I bought one last week and I brought it to Finland. They don't sell one here so I hope it's not a hardware issue..

juge..as stated by Moderator Jim, Toshiba is aware of this issue and doing testing to resolve. As an interim review the previous posts about reinstalling the driver{alps vs synaptics} ad also install this: Mouse pointer jumps around as you type to assist is a cure for partial issue. From what I have seen it is a cool unit loaded with features adequate enough for intended purpose. This particular bug could be limited to a few units which were completed along a time line assembly.

No news yet.
The issue has proven difficult to reproduce reliably, even on a system that has been known to exhibit the symptom. Intermittent problems require much testing to determine if improvement is actually caused by some specific action.
Wish I had more conclusive info but that's the current status.
Jim
