Re: NB205-N311/W Touchpad Issues

Jim,

The issue with the trackpad stalling remains. It only happens rarely though; my main concern is the overall feel and stuttering of the pad. It doesn't feel as though its tracking my movements 100% correctly. It also stutters badly, as if the CPU is getting overworked, yet task manager shows no large activity. This happens every 10 seconds or so. With an external mouse plugged in, I can move the cursor without ever experiencing the stuttering. A family member purchased another NB205-N311/W on my recommendation (they would be using it with a mouse exclusively, which is why I recommended it) and it exhibits the same behavior. This other NB205 does not completely stall though, only stutters.

I recently installed Windows XP from scratch (not from the recovery partition) and it has the same problem. Before installing the Alps software, it was not as pronounced but the sensitivity was also much lower so that may exasperate the stuttering. As you said, the stalling is very intermittent. It can go for an hour and be fine, then do it twice in a few minutes where the pad will not respond to any sort of input (or interpret the input in a strange way; left = diagonal etc).

To those who mentioned the trackpad clicking by itself or while typing - I can assure you its because your palm or thumb etc grazed the pad. I had the same issue. The lightest touch can send a tap to Windows, so please try the solutions listed in this thread.

I will be PMing you Jim, I just saw your message asking for my information. Thanks to you and the other users for offering suggestions and keeping up with this thread.

Thanks very much for the detailed report, including the XP reinstall details.  I'll take a look at the PM...

Re: NB205-N311/W Touchpad Issues

I sent a PM to Jim, but I just purchased an NB205-312 on Sunday and I'm seeing the stuttering mouse as well. I'm debating about returning it since it doesn't looks like there's a fix yet.

I'll wait to see what Jim says, but I wanted to let people know that there's another person out there with this same issue.

Re: NB205-N311/W Touchpad Issues

I'm having this trouble as well! It's terribly frustrating! I've turned tapping off (which is a pain because tapping is nice to have) It is better with tapping off but still not fully fixed. Is this a problem with all NB205's? I'd like to return it for another in hopes of getting one that doesn't have this issue but I think I may be past Staples return policy. Has anyone tried a windows 7 install regarding this? This problem really affects the usability of an otherwise fine netbook.

Re: NB205-N311/W Touchpad Issues

bretonmj..installing Windows 7 will not affect this concern some are experiencing, threads posted indicated Toshiba is aware and working the issue for a possible resolution. The one NB I setup for a friend had similiar touchpad problem, we palm pressed over the pad area, and then on the bottom of the unit pressed where the hard drive was located, we did so lightly .  Now we saw where the HDD detection alert notice came on the screen, and we ensured placement was level.

I just bought a new Nb205 - 210 from newegg.com and experiencing the same mouse stutters as decribed by others above. The touchpad becomes unreponsive for like couple of seconds from time to time (if i don't use the touchpad for a while) and once in a while the mouse cursor will lag, it will move but i see it lagging across as I use it for like half a second. Also the scroll function isn't too smooth either.

I've been thinking that this is due to the cpu reaching 100% from some incompatibility with the Chrome browser, for now i've switched over to firefox to test it out. But if this is a hardware issue on certain netbooks, I would like to know so I can exchange the netbook for a different one.

Also I have issues with the audio popping when listening to any online music and browsing the web at the same time. Again, I just figured it was an issue with the cpu speed but now im thinking the symptoms might be related.

Re: NB205-N311/W Touchpad Issues

CPU going to 100% concerns me more ginsenjin, external devices in use or were you on battery alone.  If on battery and recently purchased it will need to acquire a full charge before running this unit solo.  Did you run this yet:  Mouse pointer jumps around as you type, possible it will help.  Review the other posts here please, Toshiba is aware and reviewing how this is being incurred.  Now, it so new, YOU do have the opinion of product return to the store for an exchange. May prove advantageous to you.

Re: NB205-N311/W Touchpad Issues

Cpu doesn't go to 100% but it gets high with chrome (50% - 70%) when experiencing trackpad problems. Although the problem still occurs every once in a while even without running chrome.

I don't have any problems with the trackpad when typing, just with the movement and response. And I think I'll wait a few more days before deciding to exchange it.

Hi, I would like to note that installing windows 7 and NOT installing the alps drivers took care of my mouse stuttering problem. Stuttering of the mouse cursor does happen once in a while (for 0.5 seconds) when multitasking or starting an installation, but no longer for no reason when surfing the web or file browsing.

Without the alps drivers you can't turn off tapping and scrolling doesn't work, but I had no problems with not having those functions so it worked out for me.

With windows 7, everything seems snappier on the nb205 and my boot time in 40 seconds exactly. (some people say their boot time increased with windows 7 but mine didn't. Maybe it's because i didn't set a password when installing windows 7 so it didn't have to load that login screen)

If you are going to stick with windows xp, try turning off mouse inertial check box in the advance settings. From what i remember that made it a little better.
