The left mouse button below my laptop touch pad has stopped responding. And so has the scroll option on the touch pad itself. I tried to reinstall a driver but after it unzipped, nothing happened. I restarted my laptop just to see if that'd get it to work and it didn't. What should I do now?

Open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), expand Mice and other pointing devices, and see if you have an Alps or Synaptics touchpad there. If so, which one?
Double-click it and tell us what Device status says.

All it says is Alps Pointing Device
And under the status it says the device is working properly.

Other options are to plug in a real mouse (which I always use anyway) or restore the hard drive to its original factory-new state, which works when it's not a hardware malfunction.

Exactly the same problem on my A505-S6960 ( no left click, no scrolling).. I tried system restore, it did not help..I suspect it's a hardware issue..Well, I still have a warranty.
