Can't connect to internet w/ Satellite A505 s6980

even at a hotspot where nobody else had trouble. Laptop, my 1st, is brand new. Is there something I'm supposed to do first, besides turn it on & try to connect via Internet Explorer? Please don't assume any suggestion is so simple it'll be insulting, as I don't know much. (I did finally turn on the wireless antenna switch.) I'd appreciate any help.

been talking with the toshiba tech rep as my friend is having the same problem described by you.  apparently there is a motherboard or other hardware problem with this model.

If your lappy is less than 14days old id suggest you return it NOW, as my friend has sent it in for the second time for this problem.

Re: Can't connect to internet w/ Satellite A505 s6980

Hi, I'm having the same problem with my A505-S6980.

I checked the links posted, but they all contain very general information (is the adapter on? Is the router plugged in?), all of which I have already tried.

Here's my situation:

* Up until this morning I could connect to pretty much any wireless network

* Suddenly, the network I was connected to, stopped responding

* Resetting a) the adapter, b) the computer had no effect

* Other laptops around can still correctly connect the same network

** If I reboot into Ubuntu, I can correctly connect to that same network (and am posting this from Ubuntu)

* Rebooting into Windows (7, 64-bit) I still can't connect to the network

Suggestions?

Can you connect using an Ethernet cable?

If not, then Windows is messed up. And we will look there.

Re: Can't connect to internet w/ Satellite A505 s6980

I just performed the upgrade (as my Toshiba recommeded this) of my BIOS from 1.6 to 1.7 and immediately afterward I can no longer see any type of wireless connections.  My laptop is about 3 inches from my modem currently and still does not recognize it.  My wireless is turned on and I can connect through an Ethernet cable but 100% no connectivity through wireless.  I am fuming right now!

Re: Can't connect to internet w/ Satellite A505 s6980

I am having a similar problem.

I was prompted by a message from Toshiba(not by windows) that an update was available.  This update was going to make some change to the BIOS.  I followed the onscreen directions and when the computer booted up no wireless.  It is not the router since I was connected to it and using it before and for the download and also I can see about 5 other wireless networks where I am at my house.  Plus my other laptop see the networks.  The upgrade clearly caused the problem.

Everything is correct in device manager and when I troubleshoot it says the switch on the front of the laptop is off which it is not.  I am running windows7(I bought is this way.)  My laptop model number A505-S6980.  I tried every possible scenario like restarting with wireless switch on then switching it on after and visa versa.  Enabling then diabling wireless connection etc.  Also tried the options in  Thoahob's "Configfree" connectivity doctor.  It actuallu says the switch is on.

I have noticed that this problem is common but I have not seen a straight answer.  It seems that a setting has changed somewhere and I can't find it(because I am not a pc tech.)

Bummer is I make my living on this laptop and have to have the wireless...
