I recently bought an NB205. Although the Wi-Fi is switched on (using Fn+F8) and the computer can detect our wireless network, it won't connect to the internet unless I connect it to the LAN with an ethernet cord. Also, the network acknowledges the NB205. Our other laptops will connect to the internet wirelessly with no problem.

I've tried: playing with the function keys, a portable USB modem, power-cycling both the modem and the router.

I would see if there is a firmware upgrade for your router, especially if it is a draft "N" router. Also are you running the latest drivers for Artheros WiFi Card?

(A firmware upgrade like this? And the latest drivers on this website?) I'll try the firmware upgrade, but how do I find out if the latest drivers are installed?

Which NB205?

And especially which Windows? They just started shipping with Windows 7.

@Jerry: The computer just says it's an NB205; on the box it says it's an NB205-N235BN. It's running Windows 7 Starter currently.

@Jeff: I checked the Atheros, which says it is running the latest driver. I'll try the firmware updates for the router next. (It's a ZyXEL X550)

Yes, but I would get any firmware upgrades from the OEM of the router and not off a community board

Upgrading the router's firmware sounds like a good first step to me.

The other computers use Windows XP and Mac OS X (I think)

Windows Vista/7 often do better with newer or updated routers.

The router uses Network Magic, so I searched for updates there, and it said there weren't any. Is there any other way to find updates for the firmware?

(I tried the netbook today at school and it seemed to connect so I think it's probably some kind of trouble with the router, not the driver.)
