I just purchased a Satellite L455-S5975 with Windows 7 Home Premium on it and have been unable to connect to the unsecured wireless access point in my apartment complex. I have two other laptops with Windows XP and Windows Vista and both connect to the unsecured wireless network without any problems. I can see the unsecured wireless network I want to connect to but when I try to connect to it I get the message "Windows was unable to connect to this network."
I've tried disabling and enabling the wireless network adaptor ... no resolution. I've tried using the "Repair" (Reset IP Address" option and that didn't seem to make any difference either. I tried the "ipconfig /all" command and it said that the Media State is "Media disconnected" ... don't know why this is because the device appears to be working property when I check it under "Properties".
Norton Internet Security 2009 is installed on the machine ... I've thought about uninstalling it but not sure this will do any good either.
Any ideas anyone?

Forgot to add that the adapter driver is the latest version available from Toshiba. The adapter is Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11bg 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter.

Sometimes it helps to reinstall the same driver.
Realtek Wireless LAN Driver for Windows 7 (32/64)

I uninstalled the Wireless adapter and then rebooted and when the system came back up it reinstalled the driver and I was able to connect to the unsecured wireless access point. I had tried uninstalling and installing and then rebooting and that did not seem to work ... don't know why it worked when I uninstalled and then rebooted and allowed Windows 7 to find the Wireless adapter and install it ... oh well, looks like the problem is solved for now.
