I have the same problem that just started I tried to repair the program under programs. It went thru the install so I rebooted and it did not come up thought I had fixed, but next day it is back and every time I power up I get "Intel Proset/ wireless event log service stopped working and was closed". I even tried the restore function but it did not work it said and yes this error still comes up. Can the program be uninstalled or does anyone know how to repair? The computer is only a 2 months old.

Try reinstalling the software, Tom. Uninstall the utility (the second one) first if you can.

If I understand you want me to uninstall "Intel Proset for windows Vista (64bit)? Then install "Intel Wireless LAN driver for windows (64bit)"? So go into the uninsall programs and do the uninstall. Then click here to install the "Intel Wireless LAN driver for windows (64bit)"? If this does not work will this disable my wireless capablity? As my wireless is operational at this time.

There are no guarantees in this business, Tom. You'll want to make a Restore Point before changing things. I make a backup image of the entire disk before making any substantial change.
That said, my best guess is that it's the utility that makes the trouble. Forget the driver (the first file) for now. Go to Control Panel's Programs and Features and uninstall the Intel Proset utility. Reboot and then install the second file I have given you.
BTW, you don't really need that utility (a wireless client) for the wireless. Vista has its own software.

If it's just that the message annoys you, you can kill it in the System Configuration utility (msconfig.exe) on the Services tab. See this thread.
