Hi I've tried to change language settings (Windows XP) so I can read Japanese on mini NB205 but I get a message about installation CD (but of course mini NB205 doesn't come with a cd or cd drive). Any suggestions - work arounds, downloads?

change language settings .. so I can read Japanese
Read Japanese in what application? Incoming email in Outlook? Office documents? Web sites?
You must install a Japanese version of Windows XP in order to have everything in Japanese.

I want to have ability to read websites in Japanese. I can do this on an old toshiba laptop, a mac but not the mini NB205. Kanji shows up as squares. The problem is that NB205 does not ship with XP installation discs and there is no cd/dvd tray.

websites in Japanese
Which browser do you use, Peter?
Which version of Internet Explorer do you have?
You have Windows XP Home Edition, correct?
In the meantime, go to Regional and Language Options in Control Panel. On the Languages tab, under Supplemental Language Support, check the Install files for East Asian languages option and click OK. If it is already checked, try unchecking the option, and press Apply to remove the languages. Then re-add the option.
If Windows asks for the installation CD, point it to the i386 folder in the Windows directory.

Hi Jeff, Yes, I am using XP home edition and IE8. I tried all the suggestions above but alas no luck. However, I am now using Firefox and Safari and can now read Japanese (yay!) Thanks for your help. Peter

Thanks Jerry, I think I'll stick with Firefox. I wasn't able to point to the folder you suggested - the dialog box still wanted a CD and a path to get there. Peter

Glad to learn that Firefox has no such glitch.
