Symantec says trojan is removed, but I'm still seeing the pop-ups

My computer became infected with the trojan fakeavalert, which, while relatively innocuous, is super-annoying with constant pop-ups. I ran the Symantec full system scan and the trojan was found and, apparently, deleted. However, after restarting my computer, I'm still getting the annoying pop-ups. I ran two different scans and neither of them found the trojan again. I've also checked the registry and the associated lines are not there. Anyone know how I can get rid of these pop-ups?

I'm using MS Vista, if that will mean anything different.

Thanks for the help,

Katy

As I replied to your duplicate post, you should post this problem in a more appropriate forum, like the CompuServe Virus Central:
