Which is the best anti-virus software program to use, if you want to buy it?

[ Edited ]
  • CyberDefender – great scanner wich removes the Trojans & Spyware, but you need to upgrade to payed vershun to remove viruses - This comes with 24-7 computer help & Its a NASDAQ Company.
  • Norton 360 – Expensve, my experyens w/Norton not soo good, and kinda slow but NASDAQ Company.
  • Prevx –predy good free scanner, cartoony looking, only scans – need to buy it too remove anything.
  • PC Tools – got a nice interface, private co. so who nos how stable they are, but software is fully functional for free.
  • SuperAntiVirus – Corny name, but has 12 million users, so cant be to bad, but I found it a little slo.
  • AVG – poplar for free version but only works 30 Days before you gotta buy - slow and the paid vershun offers no thing additional.

All offer a $29 payed version (except AVG - $34 is cheapest). We are leaning to Cyberdefender, but would like some feedback.  Wich is the best free one?

Which offers the bets protection - speed balance?

My personal favorite is Norton Internet Security 2009.  Great improvements in performance and solid protection against viruses and malware.  They also got high marks from PC Magazine in their security tests.

I don't know where you got the misinformation about AVG Free - it does not 'expire', ever.  Perhaps you've confused it with a trial version.  Anyway, AVG is my favorite;  small footprint, configurable and, best of all - free.

Avast is an excellant anti-virus program. I have never used anything else. I have heard a few people say that it can be slightly heavy on your machine, but I have never had any problems with it. You can get a trial version at www.filehippo.com just to try it and see if you like it. My sister-in-law uses AVG and she really likes it. It is also available at the same site. I hope that this is of some help in your decision.

ps. Although Avast runs continually, I always do a weekly boot-time scan when nothing else is running and I also scan everything that I download before I open and/or click on it.

I use Cyberdefender anti-virus. I got the free anti-virus scanner first off there website (www.cyberdefender.com) which found a lot of stuff on my system and got rid of the spyware and Trojans. I also had viruses, so I bought the upgrade which got rid of everything on my system. I also found that the paid one came with 24/7 computer help, which I used twice and they were very helpful. So, for me, Cyberdefender works great.

In general each AV Program has it benefits for what it is covering on your unit, also how you use the unit is also a prime consideration.  For example, Norton 360 contains extra eleements that their Norton Internet Security package does not. If ever dissatified with a paid AV Product, most companies have a return clause for your money return.  By the comments posts each person has their individial thought process.  Take care.

Great post about the options, but I would totally recommend going with Cyberdefender.  that's the program I use and I feel very secure in knowing I am covered.  I used AVG prior to them and I got a really bad virus, when I tried to install PC tools it wouldn't even let me because, I've since learned, some viruses can keep you from downloading anti-virus softwares.  ANyway, Cyberdefender was able to help me clean up my system and get me going again.  I'll never use anything else.

Best of luck to yoou !

I'm a big fan of AVG because it's free.  I would also recommend using SpyBot as well as Ad-Aware which are also both free.
