Archaic M205 Portege Assistance

Hi everyone.  I did a forum search and nothing really came up for the M205.

My dilema is as follows...

I recently aquired this laptop (Portege M205) without an AC adapter.  I searched the toshiba website looking for any info on this model and I guess it's been discountied because nothing turned up in the search...

I don't have an AC adapter and the battery is fried so I cannot turn the thing on. ( I know it works it just needs the power adapter)

SO I guess my problem is this; Should I spend the $$$ on a power adapter to power it up and see what I can play around with in the system and add more memory, more disk space, etc. or should I just try to get rid of it.

I know it has the tablet edition windows and basically the stock specs, 512 RAM, 60GB hard drive, a pretty crappy video card, etc.

I just want to know if any of you guys think I would end up paying a crapload of money to get it turned on and fine tune this grandpa or since its so old just give it up??

Any advice would be awesome. Thanks.

Re: Archaic M205 Portege Assistance

If you really don't want it, I'll take it....

I have an M200, and it is sweet...  Its my first tablet PC.  I got it for nothing, but the HD had been wiped, so I had to get the restore DVD ($24.95 from Toshiba). I don't have a DVD drive, so I had do a PXE boot to restore across my network....

I would imagine eBay would be your best source for an adapter.  The one I have has the following part numbers...

M/N: PA3282U-1ACA

P/N: G71C0002S310

Re: Archaic M205 Portege Assistance

Hi thanks for the response.  I got an AC adapter from a neighbor for $45 dollars and powered up the portege.

Everything is running good except the battery doesn't hold the charge.

Okay so now I want to install factory settings on it.  How would I do this? Can I do it from F8 or F3 or F2? I dont have a disk or anything.. or is there somewhere I can download the file or something?

I used to have a dell 2 years ago and I was able to install factory from one of those keys... Ive never had a toshiba before so I dont know if it basically follows the same step..

thanks again

You'll probably need to order replacement Recovery Media via this post though.  I don't think that system has an onboard recovery process.  Check out this document to see how Toshiba set's up the Recovery Process on their systems that have it.
