Re: Just got a M200 .. what next?

Try booting from CD #1.

There are two ways.

The easiest wahy is to boot and get to BIOS, and then set the boot order with CD first on the list.  Save the change, put CD #1 in the drive, and then reboot.

The other way is to hit F12 when the Toshiba logo is displayed.  This brings up the 'one time' boot order.  Use the cursor keys to high light the CD Icon at the bottom of the screen.  Put CD #1 in the drive and hit Enter.

Also, you can get a bootable DVD from Toshiba for $24.95.  All you need is the serial # for the Tablet.   Call 1-800-457-7777.  The DVD I got was shipped from Ashville NC and arrived in Richmond VA in about 4 days....

Let us know how it turns out.. ...

Re: Just got a M200 .. what next?

I would like to reformat my recent craig'slist buy, Portege M200, and have recently received the above mentioned recovery DVD from Toshiba.  I do not have access to a dock, I do have a USB DVD drive.  The BIOS doesn't list a boot from USB option.  Does toshiba offer a downloadable update for booting from USB?

thoughts?

The BIOS does not list USB as a boot option because it is assumed you are using a Toshiba supported USB DVD drive.  You can change the boot order in BIOS or use the "one time boot order" by pressing F12 at system boot.

To use the one time boot option, connect your USB DVD drive, turn the power on, open the drive, insert the recover DVD, close the drive, and then shut the system down.

Power the system back up and immediately press F12.  This will bring up the Toshiba logo and a series of icons at the bottom of the display.  These icons are your boot options, and the first one on the left is the hard drive.

Use the cursor keys to move the high light to the right to the next icon.  This is the external DVD drive.

Pressing the Enter key will tell the system to boot from the DVD drive.  If the system will not boot from the DVD, then the drive you have is not supported.

I had this exact issue and to resolve it I had to set my Vista PC up as a PXE server, share the DVD from another computer running XP (Vista security sucks), PXE boot the tablet, connect to the shared DVD drive and then run the restore across the network.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!
