Vista Home Premium and Portege M700 S7001X

Just recntly upgraded to Vista home premium and am having a few problems. My One Note package that came with the Portege and XP is requiring a password to authenticate and neither the password for the XP or the Vista seem to work. Is there a One password somewhere else? Also having some problems with the tablet button functionality and the rotation utility. Have installed ALL recommended software from this site and still having compatibility issues with the rotation utility and the tablet buttons. Seems I can either have tablet buttons and NO volume control functionality or visa versa. The rotation utility when installed continues with Windows warnings of "software not compatible."

Please help. This is a great notebook computer and it has plenty of power to crank through Vista but some of the base functionality is gone with the upgrade.

Thanks,

Bill

Microsoft Office applications have their own product keys, Bill. So far as I know, the OneNote 2007 on your machine was pre-activated. If it's complaining, the Activation Wizard should provide a Microsoft phone number. Call that and explain the situation.

Re: Vista Home Premium and Portege M700 S7001X

Okay.....We are quite cryptic in resolution here. I have been trying for 3 days to get in touch with Microsoft regarding the One Note need for activation after upgrade to Vista. The included activation assistant recognizes the trial MS Office AND the One Note OEM software package inclusion. That just about KILLED the assistant. It won't even begin to help without my going to the Micriosoft website and downloading the FULL trial package. That being said I went on a hunt for Microsoft support (thanks for sending me on that wild goose chase). Support and Microsoft are OBVIOUS oximorons. So I sat on the phone for literally HOURS waiting to here Microsoft tell me that I can either 1) Purchase the full version of the software for an activation key, 2) Stop using the software when the 25 usage demo time bomb goes off, 3) get the activation information from the CD included with my laptop from Toshiba (this does not exist. all software is preloaded with the restore in a hidden partition) OR 4) contact tech support at Toshiba for the activation information.

So here I am again!! I have DOWNGRADED to the OEM out of the box restore (3 hours of my life spent on this endeavor). The One Note software still requires an activation key. Please let me know what in the world I need to do to make my computer OEM software package usable again.

Oh BTW it costs MONEY to get Microsoft support that isn't in a kb somewhere.

All in all I have enough time, money and aggravation tied up here to have easily purchased a new Dell notebook with an equal or greater software bundle included. I am extremely displeased with the "Microsoft is Supreme Overlord" you do as we tell you or stop using our stuff mindset. I realize that Toshiba has no control over the Microsoft end of this but you really shouldn't send anyone else to Microsoft for solutions. That was the most aggravating experience of my life. It unfortunately does not bode well for Toshiba in as much as you guys sent me there.

If One Note was pre-activated. Microsoft says that either Toshiba has the key or it should be on my computer somewhere. The only Microsoft key on the computer is the XP key and go figure that is the only Microsoft software I don't need to activate.

Sorry I'm late getting back to you. I was out of town (square dancing) and wasn't able to check in.

First off, let's get this part straight. There is no Toshiba tech support on these forums. We are all users just like you. We do not get paid for our opinions here. I was only guessing that Microsoft would help.

According to the specs for your model, you do not have a trial version of OneNote 2007. So I am really surprised that it is not pre-activated.

Too bad you're having all that trouble. I'd be interested in what Toshiba's tech support (800-457-7777) has to say.

Good luck!
