Qosmio Laptops

Hi, I had my motherboard replaced some time ago. I ran a couple programs recently, one of which was the Toshiba Application Installer (from the Recovery), and it thinks my laptop is "*"... Yes, the DMI information was left blank when they replaced the motherboard. I do not want to go back to the ASP nor should I have to just to have a couple of strings changed. I cannot afford to leave work early, etc., in order to pack up my laptop and drop it off at the service center.

Unfortunately, no program exists on the Toshiba support site that supports these new Qosmios. One program says invalid platform id (as the id of the Qosmio doesn't exist in the INI file they give you, and even if you could manually add it, not sure if the program would still work on the newer BIOS); another program (a more generic Toshiba DMI config) just gives you gibberish and when you try to change the strings, they're never saved. The more popular DMICFG tool just freezes. It wouldn't even read the DMI information.

I have the bootable USB disk and everything is ready to go, except for an appropriate DMI editor from Toshiba. Where can I find one?

You'll need to call Toshiba's tech support at 800-457-7777 for the utility.

They wouldn't provide it to me, even after talking to Level 2 support. Obviously the tool exists if the authorized service centers have it, but to the public, no such tool exists. Now I gotta get ahold of the service center and see if they'll give it to me. I highly doubt it though.

Try contacting the service center that forgot to update it in the first place.

I did. They didn't return my call. Such a PITA just to update a couple of strings in the BIOS. Why Toshiba didn't provide it to me is ridiculous. Obviously the tool exists. The service centers don't code it themselves, lol. I asked Toshiba support why they provide a tool for the older models and the tech said, "..because those models had several issues with DMI information getting lost." I think there's more to it than that, though. Apparently they don't trust the public updating it themselves, or there are legal implications or something. Who knows. Anyways, I guess I gotta try calling the service center yet again. Regardless, this shouldn't be such a hassle to get this done, nor should I have to drop off/bring my laptop to them to "repair it". Toshiba wanted me to SHIP the thing to them. Um, yeah, I don't think so.
