I've had the F55-502 for over a year and am out of warranty. I am having issues with it getting very hot under the
right speaker area whenever I play games on this laptop. I just bought Sims 3 and also play Civilization 4.
After about 20 minutes of play the bottom will get extremely hot and the computer just shuts off. I don't know if there is a cheap fix for it or I just need to take it to an authorized dealer for repair. I did buy a laptop cooling
pad with fans and that hasn't help cool it down. If anyone has experienced this issue I would love some solutions to this issue.
I also had and issue with the backlight flickering with the screen and one day the back light went out completely.
I did get that fixed while it was under warranty about 5 months ago and now that same issues is starting up
again.
Thank you for everyone's help.

I'm having what seem to be overheating issues as well; speedfan reports CPU temps as high as 85C, and GPU temps as hight 105C - pretty darn hot. Initially, I didn't have any overheating problems - I would play COD4 for hours without issue. I might try to do the usual stuff like clean the heatsink off with compressed air, and maybe I'll go the whole hog and replace the thermal compound on it as well........hopefully, I won't have to go that far.........
I too had flickering backlight issues; right now, I seem to have identified a loose plug in what I think is the backlight power supply as the culprit; it's below the LCD screen, behind the bezel. I merely reseated it, and my backlight woes ended.........
It seems like the F-55 is a really unreliable and flimsy computer - I have / had multiple issues with it over just one year of owing it, and Toshiba has dealt with my problems in a very (VERY) disappointing manner. Looks like they realised what a lemon the F-55 is and pulled it off the shelves months ago, but do they have to screw over their customers in the process?

When is the last time you have attacked your PC with cans of compressed air?
When I worked in a pc shop I saw some systems with an insane ammount of dust built up in them.
Get a can and blow it through all the vents and see if that helps, if not you may need a new fan for your video.
