Secondary Hard Drive mounting tray

Hi, I want to add the secondary hard drive to my Qosmio X305-Q705, which has no secondary hard drive by default.  If I want to add a new hard drive to it, then I do need a mounting tray for stablizing the hard drive.  My question is where can I order it?  I don't see the toshibadirect has one for sell.  Anyone or Toshiba representatives can answer it.

When I put my 2nd drive into my x305-q705, I had the very same question.  I eventually found a Toshiba part # (if you search old posts you may find it), but I wasn't positive it would fit (search for drive caddy)

Anyway,  I took an old plastic SD card case and placed it between the drives as a spacer.  I had to try a couple to get the right height, but that worked perfectly.  Without some type of spacer/retainer, the drive can move about 3/8"! not good!

It was retained securely that way and I never had a problem with it.  One end is secured by the SATA interface, and the other end has an SD card case spacer.

EDIT:  I found my old post:

Re: Secondary Hard Drive mounting tray

Hi, Ryan6491. Thanks a lot for this valuable information. I do want something that can fit well and scure tightly. Just personal perference. Interesting questions on your old post. My Qosmio 305 Q705 is using ICH9M, which does support software raid (I think almost all Intel embeded controller only support fakeRaid). However, Intel.com states that software raid needs motherboard Bios support and Intel Matrix Storage Technology (only on Windows) support. I check Bios has no option for Intel Matrix. I am going to dual boot with Fedora 11 on another Hard Disk. Right now, I install it on the same hard drive, but I got message from Fedora 11telling my drive is failing. :smileysurprised: I don't know if this is a bug or not, because I have no problem when it was Fedora 10. Will see. My laptop is so far so good, but I was little disppointed when I tried to unleash its power, like adding second hard drive with no tool. Another thing was when I want to run virtual machines, it only support 32 bit guest os. The info about CPU from Intel's website was typo, that it doesn't support the Intel VT. :smileysad: When I have some spare money, I hope I can change that P7350 and add 8G DDR3. Yep, that will be very expensive upgrade, and I also hope Toshiba's Bios supports any of those. Thanks again.

Re: Secondary Hard Drive mounting tray

I found the secondary hard drive carrier and the drive harness for my Toshiba Qosmio G55-Q804 Here. http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com  they had both in stock, but I had to get them on the phone to look up the secondary drive carrier.  The carrier was about 5.00 and the harness was almost 8.00 US dollars. shipping was 13.00 and the parts arrived in 2 days. If you are going to do a job, it is best to do it right.. Good luck with it.
