1. Get PeerGuardian 2 if you P2P. FREE! Blocks malicious IPs from your computer and vice versa. Start it BEFORE you start P2P Program. Close only AFTER closing P2P. If you find it's interfering with normal comunications, ie updates, scans, safe web pages, you can temporarily or permanently allow IP.
2. Use FrostWire, not Limewire. Frostwire is the same exact program as LimWire Pro, only FREE! (And in a pretty blue, rather than LimeWire green.) Limewire basic is only nag-ware to UPGRADE to LimeWire Pro, at a price, of course! The new version of Frostwire can also DL torrents/magnet links that you can search for on the web. Don't use Yahoo!. Use Google, P!rate Bay, etc.
3. Get CCLeaner. Yes, FREE! Run once a day, or change setting to run automatically at every startup. Also has good Registry Fixer.
4. Most ISPs provide free AV/Security package. It's in their interest, after all. Yahoo!/SBC/AT&T provides Mcafee. FREE! I love it! Way better than Norton (which I had prior to Mcaffe), both in security and resource load. Bunches of good tools. If you can get it, do.
5. Windows Defender is a must, regardless of what else you use. If you are willing to give up a little anonimity, it works great. And, oh yeah, FREE! Enroll in their reporting program and it'll really work for you. It does little good to install these programs and then limit the ability to do their job.
Personally, I trust MS. It is, after all, their OS. If They want in, I'm sure They have to have all kind of backdoors and trackers. You can't fight Uncle Sam. As a USMC Veteran, I would never try. Remember, it is The Unconstitutional and Illegal Search And Seizures Of The Legal Eagles Of The RIAA that we, the Populus, are trying to combat, resist, revolt. President Obama, or the Men In Black are more than welcome to peruse my network, even my scat porn! lol
