I'm stumped.  Windows Xp was taking a poop. NTLDR is missing. Already backed up files.  Want to do fresh install.  Have my recovery disk.  Stuck it in ran it, ran fine.  Said leave disk in, computer will restart and run disk.  Problem is computer always boots off hard drive.  Never looks at CD-rom first.  Went into BIOS and changed boot order.  Still boots hard drive first.  Disconected hard drive, turned on computer, plugged hard drive back in and it ran recovery disk fine but came up with no hard drive error.  Looking for a way to make laptop boot off CD first, flash drive program, Bios change, anything please.

Are you sure that the DVD/CD drive is even working?  I've run into that a lot with older systems.

Also, are you sure the Recovery Disk is in good condition?  Try booting to it in another system.  It won't change anything on it, but it will allow you to determine if the disk is screwed up or not.

Yes, cd drive is working, boot disk is  working.  Just cant get boot order to run cd first.

After you changed the boot order in bios, did you save changes on exit? If you did not it will go back to the original boot order.

Yes saved changes. When I go back into bios it says cd rom is first to boot, but when goes to toshiba loading screen, HD is still first to boot, then error message.  Any programs out there I can stick on a flash stick, or anyway to wipe the hard drive, need to  find some way to get the recovery disc to load first.
