Sounds normal.  Even though you're using 64-bit Vista, your Intel GM45 chipset has a maximum memory address capacity of 4GB.  Therefore, any memory mapped I/O devices will use chunks of that address space, limiting your usable to something around 3GB.  That amount can vary quite a bit depending on the memory capacity of the graphics adapter as well as other memory mapped devices.

Hey Chris,

Thanks for replying!

I need to know this then, is there no way my vista is going to use 4gb of RAM installed?

No way that I know of.  In the old days, there were system level programs around that would convert excess RAM in to virtual drives and such but I haven't seen one of those in a lot of years.  The most common situation is to ahve 3.2 - 3.5 GB available.  However, now with large memory graphics cards and multiple graphics cards we're seeing a larger chunk of address space being used for memory mapped devices.

Re: a355-6935 Vista 64bit shows 4GB RAM total, but 2.75 available

Thats exactly what I am looking to do, I would like to make more RAM available to Vista. I figured that the ATI 3650 is using up some of the memory but I ve not been able to find out how I can configure that. I would like Vista to use more RAM than ATI. I chkd in ATI Catalyst center, couldnt find the settings to change that. neither could i find that option in the BIOS. any advices?

I'm afraid I don't.  The memory allocation in the graphics controller has no user settings, nor does the BIOS.  It's all handled internally by the controller itself.  You can spend some time Googling but I'm not optimistic.  If someone had figured out how to do what you're looking for, I would think the method would be all over the place.
