Satellite Laptops :: A-Series models

I have a A305 Satellite and want to create a backup of my system files and windows Vista in the event of a hard drive failure (since the laptop did not come with a hard copy of windows).  I opened Recovery Disc Creator and I had the option of creating 1 to 3 DVD's, but nothing really explained what I was making a backup of.  I get two check boxes, one for system information and one for applications.  When I expand the system check box it just lists recovery DVD 1 and 2.  Are these going to have different information on them?  Or are they just two copies of the exact same thing.  Can anyone expain the process to me please.  Thanks so much.

You're making a backup image of the entire hard disk, including all its partitions, the master boot record, and the partition table. All the discs are needed.
