Does Add-on RAM Need to Match Internal Size?

My Satellite M45-S169 has 512 MB internal RAM.

Do I have to install the same size in the addition RAM (in the door on the bottom of the laptop)?

Or can I add 1 Gig additional RAM and expect the unit to function properly?

A 512 meg and a 1 gig stick should work together just fine, as long as the other specs match.

Confirmed - after installing a WORKING 1gig additional RAM card all is working. Internal RAM card is 512.
