Toshiba L35-S2151 refuses to detect 2gb of ram

Hi,

I recently have received a Toshiba L35-S2151. Upon receiving the laptop, I realized that RAM could be upgraded.

I bought 2 sticks of 1 GB RAM that fits the Toshiba specification as stated in the manual.

When I installed the RAM, the BIOS reported that there was 879MB of RAM installed.

Even accounting for the amounts of Hypermemory used by integrated ATI integrated graphic card, 879MB RAM seems to be too low.

CPU-Z and EVEREST were able to detect both sticks of RAM in correct size though. Both sticks passed memtest with flying colours.

I have installed and updated to the latest softwares and drivers as well as the BIOS.

I am currently running Windows XP 32 Bit. I have looked at Boot.ini and found nothing that could cause problem.

What can I do to get L35-2151 to detect all 2GB of RAM?

Thanks

Re: Toshiba L35-S2151 refuses to detect 2gb of ram

What is the brand name and model number of the ram you installed?

What is the bios revision of your laptop?

Go to START - RUN and start msconfig.  Go to the boot.ini tab and then the Advanced Options button.  See what it says in the MAXMEM drop down menu.  Make sure that it isn't checked or doesn't have 1gig or less of ram selected.

Re: Toshiba L35-S2151 refuses to detect 2gb of ram

At least part of your problem is mixing two different brands of ram.  Another is mixing PC6400 and PC5300 ram.  A third problem is trying to use PC5400 and PC5300 ram in a system that is speced for PC4200 ram.  Add to that the fact that Toshiba Laptops are notoriously finicky about the ram they will work with and you end up with a real problem.  Toshiba's tend to work best with Kingston KTT ram (not the KVR line).  You probably won't be able to get that combination to work in that system.
