White Lines and White Screen

Hey,

For a few months now, my screen will get these white lines across it an sometimes go completely white. And it's really startin to bug me now. I have already sent the laptop in for the charging port breakin. It is a Satellite M305D-S4831. Someone please lemme know what to do b/c i think my screen maybe goin out. It kinda looks like a "Noise" type of thing an if it continues I will hafta buy a new laptop.

Thanks

Re: White Lines and White Screen

It is obviously a bad video card issue and if your laptop is still under 1-year warranty Toshiba will fix it at no charge. You just have to call 18004577777 and provide the Serial Number of your laptop.

Re: White Lines and White Screen

Are you sure it's the video card?

I have these white bars going from top to bottom on my screen and was told it's the screen on my M65.

James, the way to determine which it is is plug in an external monitor.  IF the external monitor also displays the white bars it's the video card.  If it doesn't then it's either the onboard screen or video cable.

Re: White Lines and White Screen

I am having a similar problem with my L305D S5893. A screen with white lines appears all of a sudden and the laptop restarts automatically. I am running Windows 7 and this happens almost everyday. Would this also be a problem with the video card?

Actually, no you're not having a similar problem.  Your problem is entirely different and it's also on a different system so it should have been posted in a NEW thread instead of hijacking an existing thread with a different problem.

It's more like a driver problem or a problem with Windows itself as it is intermittent.

Re: White Lines and White Screen

I had this problem with my Toshiba Satellite. I got white lines flickering in the middle of the screen. I chose to ignore it and a month later the screen would only open up halfway, going completely white when lifted at a greater angle. One week later the screen just stopped working.

I took it to a repair shop and they fixed it. Turns out it the cable connecting the motherboard/other component to the monitor was faulty. They replaced it and charged me 80 pounds (I'm from the UK). Seeing as I paid 1000 pounds for the laptop I paid up.

Also the guy at the repair shop said this was a common problem with Toshiba laptops.

Hope that helped!

Re: White Lines and White Screen

The cable going out like that is common on a LOT of laptops that get moved a lot.  The more times you open and close the lid the more likely it will happen to you.
