Why Buy A Toshiba

[ Edited ]

I am in the market for a new laptop.

Why Buy A Toshiba if they dont furnish service manuals?

How can I dismantle my Toshiba to repair it instead of paying a shop enough labor to buy a new entry level Laptop?

What is wrong with this picture?

You present a very compelling case that won't be debated by me.

Take a look at irisvista.com for disassembly instructions. I can't vouch for their accuracy, but they look pretty good.

You don't ask why the service manuals aren't available, but I believe one reason is because they contain proprietary information.  Besides protecting Toshiba's intellectual property, for some models the information would also make it possible for thieves to defeat the system password.

Hi, I wish i was in your shoes then i would not have bought this load of crap Tosh  P200 it came with vista with 2gh

of mem. Slow and stop you cannot put xp pro on it because of something cooked up with Tosh and M/soft to force people to use vista.  It's like buing a car and you can't drive it well toshiba laptops are like that you can't take controll of it, youre just abackseat driver.

One, it's a great laptop and two all the manuals you want can be found at their website for free. I've had my  Toshiba laptop since 2002. It still runs great and I can find all the replacement parts I need right there on E-bay.

You can get around that , by bootstrapping XP from the begin. However all data will be lost and you will have to reload everything.

My very personal advice?  DON'T BUY TOSHIBA!  Most likely after warranty expires you get ZERO support.  Look at the Forums...   Not too many people satisfied with Toshiba especially the display/screen.  Vertical lines will come up eventually and they advise, buy a new laptop!  I purchased two Toshiba laptops, satellites, LCD dispaly, not worth buying Toshiba!

A good day to all

Not good buy with Vista Basic, L355-S7915. Could put Linux on it, if someone would tell me how to make all the stock parts work with it.

Most of those devices will be automatically detected and installed with a current version of Linux.  I know that the latest release of Fedora, PCLinux. and Ubuntu picked up everything on my L305-S5933.  If anything isn't installed or doesn't work you should post on one of the Linux Forums as they would more than likely have a better idea of what to do that anyone here does.
