Having trouble connecting satellite pro to my HDTV

I have a Satellite Pro L300 EZ1524. I am wanting to connect my laptop to the TV so I can watch movies on the TV through the laptop. I bought a 15-pin to HDMI cable and plugged in both ends, selected the proper input on the tv and am not getting a picture. Am I missing something? Do I need to configure my laptop somehow?

Thanks!

Re: Having trouble connecting satellite pro to my HDTV

Those 15 pin to HDMI cables will never work, the 15 pin output is analog, and the HDMI is digital.

You need a box like the following, or a TV that has a VGA input. :-)

I have not used that converter, but in theory, that's what you need.

I have bought cables from that company though, much better prices than the overpriced cables at Best Buy or whatever.

Re: Having trouble connecting satellite pro to my HDTV

Okay thanks.

I'm using a different TV now that has a VGA port designated for PC Connection. Now I have a VGA to VGA cable and I've connected the two but my TV says "no signal".

I have changed the source on the TV to PC.

When I go into display settings on my laptop I don't think my laptop is recognizing the tv as a monitor.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Re: Having trouble connecting satellite pro to my HDTV

Might be ab bit obvious but have you hit the FN+F5 Key?

This tells the laptop to output to a connected monitor

Also is the resolution you are using compatible with the TV?
