i have recently reinstalled windows xp on this system and since doing so i no longer have any sound, all the drivers etc seem to state they are working, nothing is muted , function escape use states that sound enabled, starting to run out of ideas, cannot find support for my model online, hope someone can help. thanks, Nigel.

Did you install a retail version of Windows XP or did you restore from Toshiba's recovery media?

If the former, the order of installation matters.  In particular, the chipset software followed by the display driver must be installed prior to the sound driver.
