Sound Utility to Turn Mute Off After Upgrading to Vista
Didn't work for my Tecra A9-PTS52E, will now try the updated A8 sound drivers, got nothing to lose...
Edit: Still no sound trying the following:
PARuss wrote:For my situation running Windowws 7 32bit I just looked at the Toshiba Tecra-A8 model site and low and behold they have an update for realtek audio drivers. I installed it and I now have sound working!
Here's the site
The funny thing is my Tecra A9-PTS52E doesn't appear in the download section of this page, think Toshiba hasn't developed any Win7 drivers for this notebook yet...

Your 64-bit driver should be this one. Right?

As I mentioned in an earlier post that after installing the latest audio driver that I found on the Toshiba website my audio was working. The next day I had installed Skype and was fiddling around with it trying to get the microphone to work. Since then I once again have no audio. I have since reinstalled Win 7 twice but still have no audio even after using the new drivers.
Question for those who might know: I've noticed that in my XP setup(on same machine) that in the device manager under sound it shows a bunch of audio codecs in addition to the Realtek driver. In my Win 7 setup the device manager only shows the Realtek. Could the missing codecs be the reason why the audio doesn't work?
Thanks

Removed and resintalled drivers and then ran the Vista utility (mute) and all is well.
Thank you Mr. Lippey!
You are the salt of the earth.

Jerry
I just used the utility to 'un-mute' the sound on my Portege R500 and it worked great after 2 days of hassle.
I had been running XP (corporate standard 2 years ago due to Novell support requirement) then lost the sound when I used the product recovery disk to recover it to the factory supplied Vista. Tried various drivers and settings, nothing.... Then decided to upgrade to Windows 7 as Vista had decided it needed about >15Gb after loading 90+ updates following the recovery.... Windows 7 works great, with a MUCH smaller footprint, but still no sound.... they I tried the utility and all is well.
Thanks for posting,
Chris
